The 'Drava Region Climate Change Adaptation for Disaster Management' project is co-funded by the European Union in the frame of the Interreg VI-A Hungary-Croatia Programme 2021-2027.

Its aim is to improve the disaster management climate change adaptation in the Croatia-Hungary border region and enhance preparedness, more efficient prevention, mitigation and aftercare of climate change caused disasters.

Activity 3.1

Activity 3.1

The climate change effects, regional forecast of risks for disaster management for short, medium and long term and vulnerability of counties are analysed with special focus on the eco-system and nature based approach solutions.

Activity 3.2

The regional action plan based on the 3.1 impact and risk analysis focuses on the elaboration of county level plans of disaster management capacity developments on short, medium and long term.

Activity 3.3

The activity is dealing with the prevention, early identification and warning, alerting procedures and efficient repression tactics of forest fire disaster in details. The regional professionals and experts look for more efficient best practices that could be applied in the region.

In the management of forest fires, new tools, such as quads and high-pressure water extinguishing equipment are essential as they can be used to quickly and efficiently reach hard-to-reach areas.

For flood management two meetings are organised to improve preparedness for the increasing risk related to climate change. The prevention and flood protection disaster management tasks and best practices are discussed in details.

Special flood management training material is elaborated jointly by the partners and used during the joint theoretical and practical training and Croatian-Hungarian field-exercise.

Guidelines for improvement of system of organic waste management in case of natural disasters will be based on analysis and recommendation of study and in line with local context.

Unikom equips its composting facilities with machinery for handling large quantities of organic waste after natural disasters.

Activity 4.1

Activity 4.1

Joint elaboration of the study on regional status quo and an inventory of innovative technologies that can support disaster management and climate change adaptation.

This document will serve as an efficient inventory for the region for modernisation and strategic planning.

Activity 4.2

Activity 4.2

In order to support firemen training simulations and public/youth awareness of climate change adaptation and disaster management, the project partners develop interactive AR/VR materials and short videos.

The developed materials are used at professional and volunteer firemen trainings both in Croatia and Hungary.

Activity 4.3

Activity 4.3

The pilot system monitors the forest by high resolution webcameras and processes the data by using Artificial Intelligence methodology.

The AI system analyzes data from cameras and drones to detect signs of fire at the earliest stages, enhancing early warning capabilities and disaster management responses.

Activity 4.4

Activity 4.4

As drone technology is becoming widespread and proved to be a cost-efficient, modern tool, the disaster management utilisation of this technology is analysed jointly in the project.

Educational video material about disaster management drone usage is developed in two languages.

Activity 4.5

Activity 4.5

In order to summarize all the results of the innovation technology activities and pilots in Act.4.2, Act.4.3 and Act.4.4, a study and conclusion paper is elaborated.

This material serves as a practical guide to multiply the results to other regions or sectors.
